Brewer’s Blurb:
Our intention is to brew small idiosyncratic batches of Belgian inspired ales, without compromise.
Craftwork Brewery is a collaborative brewing partnership between Michael O'Brien and Lee-Ann Scotti, founded on 15th March 2014. With a 50 litre Braumeister, we recognise that our capacity is ludicrously uneconomic, but we decided to brew ourselves, from grinding the malt by hand to bottling the finished product.
The craft work is a joy, and as we are not indebted, we opted to have a legal brewery in Lee-Ann's stone basement. This allows us in future to consider contract brewing and gives us the flexibility to dedicate the space to sour ales, usually too wild for most contract breweries to risk, if we so choose.
Whilst our inspiration is Belgian, and we salute the bold American role models, we like to source the finest malts and adjuncts, organically and locally.
Michael’s Notes:
This beer was made by none other than The Bookbinder (see related post for more info on him), and was on offer at his cozy little AirBnB called The Bookbinder's Retreat. The beer was classic Belgian, which meant incredibly strong (you know, the kind with sediment at the bottom). Very flavourful and packed quite a punch. I enjoyed it, but only a single dose per evening please!
