After our night at the top of New Zealand, we started backtracking south, heading for the Coromandel Peninsula. It was a long way off, and I needed to clock some work hours, so we broke the journey by stopping in Whangarei. The town itself wasn’t memorable, but we did spend a day on the coast near Tutukaka. We went on a hike along Matapouri Bay, which was a nice 2 hour trek across a rugged coastline, with beautiful beaches and farmland along the way.
